This Jolly is tasked with proving the innocence of Iqbal (Manav Kaul), falsely branded a terrorist and shot by the police in a fake encounter. The premise, though, is much the same: unrefined newbie lawyer goes up against smooth-talking big city player, grows a conscience, takes on the system. Warsi has had to make to way for Akshay Kumar “Jolly" now refers Jagdishwar Mishra, not Jagdish Tyagi. Right now I am wondering if we watched different movies altogether.Shukla is also the only actor carried forward to the somewhat-sequel, Kapoor’s Jolly LLB 2. The only good part about this movie was that it reminded me of Arshad Warsi’s Jolly character and I am going to watch it now.ĭisclaimer: It is rather surprising that this movie has got some excellent ratings in the leading newspapers. Perhaps the only time during the movie, when I was in agreement with the movie makers, was when Saurabh Shukla screams, “Abey Ye Ho Kya Raha Hain” …. The movie ends on a Patriotic note which seems to have become a mandatory requirement in any movie which hires Akshay Kumar as the lead actor. I wonder how many PILs have been filed in the courts to demand a Third Party Investigation in a particular case, and have ended up with the Judge ordering the arrest of someone and declaring the sections of IPC himself.īut even given the lapses in the law, Jolly LLB 2 fails to entertain on any other level. It is always recommended that Directors who make courtroom dramas should be doing more research on Law, but unfortunately this is something which seems to be lacking these days.Įven, in Jolly LLB 2, the Director forgets what case was filed in the Courts and ends up with having the judge deliver a completely unrelated judgement. This is a classic case of taking some fine actors and ending up with a mess of a movie on your hands. There is absolutely zero character build up and so you never tend to empathise with any of them. Saurabh Shukla, once again, plays the lovable judge, transferred from Delhi to Lucknow, but is turned into a mumbling idiot who dances with an iPod stuck to his ears and you just cant take him seriously.Īnnu Kapoor tries his best to step into the shoes of Boman Irani as the defence lawyer, but fails miserably, more because of what he was apparently told to do, rather than his capabilities as an actor.Īkshay’s wife played by Huma Qureshi, who is another fine actress, has been reduced to being some who enjoys drinking neat whiskey brought by her husband, as her only significant quality.

Not only does he appear in the same mundane manner that he portrays every character in, but he also reaffirms the fact that he has exactly one expression more than your regular doorknob. The movie revolves around Jolly LLB trying to seek justice in what would have been a very interesting case, had the Director Subhash Kapoor actually paid attention to how a court room proceeding actually happens.īut unfortunately, the movie gets turned more into yet another portrayal of the heroics of Akshay Kumar.Īkshay Kumar plays the name sake of the original character Jolly, this time in a courtroom in Lucknow. The wit changes to slapstick comedy and the satire completely disappears.

While the first movie was a witty and satirical take on the Courtroom proceedings with an expose on how the “Kanoon Vyavastha” progresses in India, Jolly LLB 2 ends up being a movie about monkey business in court. Then I would recommend that you dont watch Jolly LLB 2. Have you watched Jolly LLB? Did you love that Arshad Warsi movie?
